Questions & Answers

What makes Austin Boxing Babes unique?
Austin Boxing Babes is a women-only environment and is taught by a female instructor. We train in a traditional martial arts studio that emphasizes the values of respect, discipline and friendship. It's a very clean, well-equipped dojo where everybody can feel safe and comfortable.

This is not your regular gym fitness class where nobody knows your name or cares whether you come to class or not. You will get to know your instructor and your instructor will get to know you. Because of the small class size and the way we teach, we make sure you learn proper boxing techniques and get results.

Are beginners welcome?
Yes. The boxing class is designed for beginners. We work with you to slowly build up your strength and stamina. While we will push you to do your best, the class is designed to accommodate students with different levels of fitness and allow them to go at their own pace.

How often should I work out?
That really depends on your level of fitness and your goals. Usually, working out 2 – 3 times per week is a good start but we'll work with you to determine what's right for you.

What are the chances of getting injured?
The chances of getting injured are very small since the training is constantly supervised with safety in mind. Classes are taught by Certified Trainers and there is no contact in the beginner class.

Do I have to spar?
No! We don't spar as part of class, and partner drills for beginners are designed to involve no contact.

More advanced students can participate in contact partner drills and attend a separate sparring class. They are required to wear head, chest, groin and mouth protection. These contact partner exercises allow students to learn about reactions, timing and speed.

What equipment will I need?
You will need hand wraps and boxing gloves. Both can be purchased at the school. Boxing shoes and a good jump rope are also recommended but are not required.

More advanced students who want to spar will need 14 – 16 oz sparring gloves as well as head, mouth, groin and chest protection.

Should I take group or private lessons?
Private lessons will increase your progression two to three times faster than by taking group lessons alone. The personalized attention and energy of an instructor is a tremendous advantage.

Group lessons are good because it allows you to see how different people react to situations and techniques. You also get to meet new people and friends.
